The Marsala is a very ancient product that was commercialised in the second half of the eighteenth century by an English entrepreneur whose name was John Woodhouse who was the first to add alcohol to the local wine and to market it in England. This is still produced using traditional methods.
First of all, this wine comes from a base of four different grape varieties: Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia and Damaschino.
Then alcohol is added in order to stop this process. In many cases cooked must is added to make it sweeter and darker.
Finally, it must be aged for at least one year in great oak barrels that start a light oxidation that is the main cause of the amber colours of Marsala.
All our wines are produced according to Italian regulations in order to obtain the “Protected Designation of Origin” mark that guarantees elevated standards of quality for consumers
